How does Fake IVR Call Scam works?

In this scam, thugs make an automated call (IVR call) in the name of banks, telecom company or government institution. Calls bring robotic voice or recorded message, which makes it feel official notice. Thugs trap people in this way.

Fraud of bank account or KYC update – It is said in the call that your bank account, debit/credit card or KYC (Know Your Customer) is necessary, otherwise services will be closed.

Lucky draw or prize greed In some cases, thugs ask bank details by pretending to be fake reward or cashback.

SIM card threatened to close – Calls come in the name of fake telecom companies, in which OTP is sought by threatening to shut down the SIM card.

Automated K-Press Trap – The call is said to “press 1 to solve your problem” or “Press 2 for KYC updates”, but as soon as you press the button, the thugs get your sensitive information.

How to avoid this scam?

Do not give personal information on any unknown IVR call.

Banks, telecom companies or government institutions never ask for OTP or password on automated calls.

Do not click on the link given on the call and block the number.

If a suspicious call comes, contact the concerned bank or service provider’s official number.

Use an app like Truecaller, which helps in identifying spam calls.
