Android Users: India is once again the target of cyber criminals. According to the latest report ThreatLabz 2025 Mobile, IoT and OT Threat Report by cloud security company Zscaler, dangerous Android apps have been downloaded more than 4 crore times in India so far. These apps were present on the Google Play Store and were deceiving users by presenting themselves as common tools.
India becomes the biggest target of mobile malware
According to the report, India has become the world’s biggest mobile attack target. A sharp increase in mobile cyber attacks has been seen between June 2024 and May 2025. Zscaler said that it identified 239 dangerous apps that were infiltrating users’ phones in the name of file managers, work tools or performance boosters. These apps had collected millions of downloads, after which Google removed them from the Play Store.
Mobile malware attacks increased by 67%
The report shockingly revealed that 67% more Android malware transactions have been recorded compared to last year. Among these, spyware and banking trojans remain the biggest concerns. Hackers are now focusing more on mobile payment theft and device tracking instead of card fraud.
India alone is facing 26% of the world’s mobile attacks, which is 38% more than last year. Due to the popularity of digital payments and UPI system, India has now become a ‘high value target’ for cyber criminals.
Energy and transportation sectors are most at risk
It was also told in the report that now hackers are targeting not only common users but also important industries. Cyber attacks have increased by 387% in the energy sector. More than 40% of IoT malware cases have been reported in the manufacturing and transportation sectors.
How to avoid this danger
Even though Google has removed many dangerous apps, millions of devices are still at risk. Security experts recommend deleting unknown or suspicious apps immediately. Download the app only from Google Play Store. Keep your phone updated and always keep Play Protect on. Use a trusted mobile security app.
