Soham parakh: Such a scam has hardly been seen before in the tech industry. Software Engineer Soham Parekh, who hails from India, surprised dozens of startup companies of America when it was revealed that he was doing full-time jobs in 34 companies simultaneously.
Everything looked normal in the beginning
The reality of Soham Parekh came to light when MixPanel founder Suhail Doshi revealed on the social media platform X (first Twitter) that he had hired Parekh, but also removed it after being cheated within a week. After this revelation of Doshi, many more startup founders came out and told that either he had hired or interviewed Parekh, even though he was already working elsewhere.
An engineer, many faces
Dhruv Amin, co-founder of AI Startup Create, also shared his experiences related to Parekh. He told that he had hired him after seeing Soham in an interview. Initially, everything was good, Soham performed well and looked excited about joining the team. But then, Parekh said that he is in New York and will join after a week. On the very first day, he pretended to get sick and then talked to remote onboarding.
After this, missing the meetings, postponing deadlines and excuses started. Later, the team came to know that Parekh was working at the same time in another company SYNC. When asked, he rejected it and said that people working in SYNC are only friends. But in the “Employees of the Month” video shared by SYNC, all the truth came to light after seeing Soham Parekh himself.
The confession of truth came after ‘fire’
When this matter broke in Tech World, Soham Parekh came out in The Backchannel Podcast (TBPN) and accepted the whole truth. He said, “Yes, this is true. I am not proud of it, but my financial condition was so bad that I had to do so. Nobody likes to work in 140 hours weeks, but was compulsion.”
Soham also said that he did not take any kind of AI or external help and completed all the projects themselves. He claimed that all this started in 2022, when he enrolled in the online program of Georgia Tech. But when Georgia Tech was told that there is no such student in his record, further questions started to arise on his story. You may be surprised, but despite this revelation, Soham is now working in San Francisco’s AI company Darwin. He has clearly said, “Now I will not do it again.”
Story ended with a big question
This story of Soham Parekh exposes the flaws of remote work and startup hiring systems, not just a fraud, where the background check is nominal and the pressure to score fast is very high. Whether it is a fraud or hustler one thing is certain, Soham Parekh’s name has now been recorded in the history of Silicon Valley.
