When does power bank become dangerous?
First of all, it is important to understand that the power bank has lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries that if they are overheated or they have a malfunction in wiring, then they can burst or catch fire. Often local or brand power banks are available in the market at very cheap prices but there is no control over their quality. They do not have any circuit safety to protect against overcharging, short circuit or heating, which further increases the danger.
Apart from this, if the power bank is left in the sun for a very long time or kept in moist places, it can increase the chemical reaction inside the battery, which increases the risk of explosion. Many times people misuse the same charging cable and start charging both the power bank and the phone together which not only harm the phone, but can also spoil the capacity of the power bank.
How to use power bank safely?
First of all, while purchasing any power bank, always take branded and BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certified devices. These devices come with overcharging, overheating and short circuit to protect them. Never charge the power bank excessively and after the charge is removed from the power.
Never keep the power bank in very hot or very cold places. During the journey, it can be dangerous to leave the power bank directly in the sun or in a closed car. Do not keep the device under the pillow or mattress at the time of charging, as it prevents the heat from getting out, which increases the chances of fire in the device.
Always use good quality charging cable and adapter only because a inferior cable can lead to a short circuit or more current in the power bank. Also, if the smell of burning from the power bank starts coming, it starts swelling or smoke starts coming out of it, then stop using it immediately and deposit it in an e-waste recycling center.
