Turkey ban gram: A Turki court has banned AI Chatbot Grok developed by Allen Musk’s company XAI. The step was taken when Chatbot gave objectionable and alleged derogatory answers against President Tayyip Erdogan. The matter has been confirmed by the Chief Prosecutor Office of Ankara and a formal investigation has also been started against it. This is the first time in Turki when such a ban has been imposed on an AI tool.
Ban cause
According to media reports, when users asked some special questions in Turki language, Grok generated objectionable material related to Erdogan. After this, the Information and Communications Technology Authority (BTK) stopped it under the court order. According to the Turki law, insulting the President is a crime whose punishment can be imprisoned for up to four years.
Issues such as the language spreading hatred and misinformation about AI chatbots have already remained a matter of concern, especially when Openai’s chatgpt has been launched in 2022.
Alan Musk did not comment
Neither X (X) nor Allen Musk have given any official comment in this case. However last month, Musk said in a statement that Grok would be updated soon, as the current model is filled with “very useless information based on uncomfortable data”.
Opposition leaders and critics say that this Turki law is often used to suppress disagreement, while the government argues that this law is necessary to maintain the dignity of the President.
