These days the work of revising the electoral roll is going on in many parts of the country. For this, Booth Level Officers (BLO) are going door-to-door and getting SIR forms filled by voters. Cyber criminals are also keeping an eye on this official process and are trying to trap people. They call people posing as officials of the verification team and ask them to share OTP for verification. Let us tell you that this is a complete scam and there is no need of OTP in the process of SIR.
OTP not required for voter list updation
Let us tell you that OTP is not required in the voter list update exercise being run by the Election Commission. In this, BLOs are going door to door and filling SIR forms. They have the right to take your phone number and Aadhaar details, but there is no need for OTP in this entire process. In such a situation, if someone calls you and asks you to share OTP to complete this process, then you need to be careful.

In the latest scam, cyber criminals ask for phone OTP for form verification. This OTP is not for voter list update exercise. Scammers can carry out any illegal transaction or steal your personal data through this OTP. Therefore there is a need to be cautious of this scam.
How to avoid such scams?
- Never share OTP and your personal information with any unknown or suspicious person.
- The entire process of SIR is offline. In this the BLO reaches your home. Therefore, be cautious of any suspicious mail or message coming in the name of SIR.
- Nowadays cyber frauds are increasing rapidly. In such a situation, be cautious while browsing the web and avoid clicking on suspicious websites etc.
