Apple iPhone: Apple has once again changed its Vintage and Obsolete product list and this time the company has put five more old devices in such a category that no official repair will be done now. These devices include the first iPhone SE, the second generation iPad Pro and some special edition models of Apple Watch.

Which devices came in Apple’s Obsolete list?

The products that the company has now declared completely ‘Obsolete’ include the original iPhone SE, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd Gen), Nike and Hermès models of Apple Watch Series 4, and Beats Pill 2.0. It is worth noting that the standard model of Watch Series 4 has not yet appeared in this list but its special edition is now out of service.

What does Apple Obsolete mean?

Apple considers any device obsolete when more than seven years have passed since it was available in the market. After this status, the company stops any kind of hardware service of that product and even authorized service centers are not able to order its parts.

Mac laptops get a slight exemption, where for some models only battery replacements may be available for up to 10 years, and only if parts are still in stock.

Which products will now be considered completely discontinued?

The original iPhone SE was discontinued by Apple in 2018 and its new version was launched in 2020. This phone could not get the next software update after iOS 15 and now with the repair being stopped, users are left with no option but to replace it.

Apple Watch Series 4 was released in 2018 and was the first Apple Watch model in which the facility to record ECG from the wrist was provided. This model was discontinued after the arrival of Series 5 in 2019.

On the other hand, the iPad Pro (2nd Gen) was the first iPad to feature a 120 Hz ProMotion display in 2017. Later the same feature reached the iPhone 13 Pro series in 2021 and the iPhone 17 base model in 2024.

Is your Apple product also going to become obsolete soon?

If you have an old Apple device, there may not be much time left for it to become obsolete. Apple first puts devices in the Vintage category which become obsolete after five years. This means that models which are vintage today may reach the repair-free zone in the next two years.

For those using old iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, this update is no less than a warning because now joining the company’s list means the last chapter of the device has started.
