Smartphone Exporter: India has now become the largest country to send smartphones to America. According to a report by Tech Research firm Canalys, India has left China behind for the first time in this matter. The biggest credit for this is that the strategy of Apple under which he decided to increase production out of China, which is being called ‘China Plus One’ strategy.
Apple enhances iPhone manufacturing in India
In the last few years, Apple has increased its iPhone production in India very fast. In the year 2025, a large part of the iPhones made in India was sent directly to the US. The report states that Apple took 1.5 million iPhones from India to America this year through chartered cargo aircraft.
‘Make in India’ gets international recognition
This achievement of India is considered a big milestone for the ‘Make in India’ initiative. India is now becoming a practical option of China for global tech companies due to the Central Government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme and partnerships made with states. After Apple, now Samsung and Motorola are also starting production of their American orders in India, although it is still smaller than Apple.
Uncertainty became uncertain about business policies
Another major reason behind this change is the instability in America’s trading policies. In April 2025, US President Donald Trump implemented 26% tariff on imports from India, which has been postponed till 1 August. Due to this instability, companies are shifting out production fast outside China.
Sale a decline but strategy correct
Although iPhone’s shipment in America reduced by 11% to 13.3 million units in the second quarter of this year, Apple’s long -term strategy is still considered strong. Globally, iPhone’s shipment has fallen by 2%. Canalys says that this decline is due to the sluggish demand of the users, while companies are already depositing stocks regarding the change of possible tariff policy.
What ahead of India’s manufacturing?
Experts believe that this is just the beginning. This bounce in smartphone exports for India is part of the strategy of large brands, but small and medium manufacturers will also have to further strengthen their strategies to tick the market.
