Employees fired in google: Tech giant Google has trimmed hundreds of employees from its platform and device division. According to reports, this team used to work for Android software, pixel phone and chrome browser. This pruning has been done at a time when Google proposed to the employees of the same unit to quit their jobs in January this year.
Some jobs were also cut
According to ‘The Information’ report, Google spokesperson has confirmed that the company is working more efficiently and fast after the merger of its platform and device teams last year. “As part of this effort, it has cut some jobs in addition to the earlier voluntary exit program offered,” the report said.
The company said, “Although the exact number of affected roles has not been disclosed, the move reflects Google’s widespread strategy to streamline operations and reduce expenses.”
Like many other tech veterans, the company is reviewing its team structures given the changing business needs and market conditions. The development occurred at a time when many global companies, including Amazon, Intel and Goldman Sachs, are also cutting jobs amidst the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and global economic uncertainty.
Rapid growth in adoption of AI
According to earlier reports, Amazon is planning to cut around 14000 managerial posts to save $ 3 billion annually, while Intel is preparing for large restructuring after significant financial losses in 2024. With a rapid increase in adopting AI, companies are focusing on rapid cost adaptation and automation, causing jobs to be cut in various fields. A report earlier indicated that Goldman Sachs is also preparing to cut jobs, with a plan to cut its employees 3-5 percent after the annual performance review.
The Bank of America has recently abolished around 150 junior banker posts, although most affected employees have been given roles outside of investment banking. With uncertainty about the global economic conditions, more firms can do so in the coming months.
